Act now to save your spot on the Library of Congress Tour on November 6, at 2:00pm. The tour generally lasts 2 hours and participants can travel as a group from the Virginia Square Metro, or meet up with the tour at the Library of Congress.

October is chock-full of various holidays and awareness weeks/days that it was hard to pick out a theme for this month’s display. There’s Hispanic Heritage Month, Breast Cancer Month, AIDS/HIV Awareness Month, Disability Month, Crime Prevention Month, and many more, I’m sure. GMU Libraries is also participating in Open Access Week (Oct. 19 – 23), so be on the lookout for all kinds of fun OA stuff later this month!

This month we based our exhibit on United Nations Day, which is October 24, the day the U.N. Charter went into effect in 1945. The library has many books about the U.N. and we chose to highlight these selected titles selected by Public Policy Liasion Librarian, Beth Roszkowski, in honor of this special event. Come in and check one out this month!

Today marks the beginning of the Fall 2009 Semester and if you are new to the Arlington Campus you might be interested in this recently updated campus map. This new map highlights the future site of Founders Hall,  as well as the current buildings that are in use on campus.  You can also pick up a copy at the Reference Desk if you don’t want to print one out yourself.

Of course no semester can start without some minor inconvenience, and this semester it’s Mason Money that is the cause of frustration. If you need to print out a copy of your schedule from the library for parking services, you will be notified that you will need to use your “offline balance.”  This simply means that while Mason Money is working out some kinks  you can still print up to $5.00 worth of print jobs. We are unsure when Mason Money will be  available to add funds using the cash teller machine, but in the meantime you can add funds with a credit/debit card at https://masonmoneyonline.gmu.edu.
